What will it cost to have my backflow prevention assembly tested?
Orange Vale Water Company charges $60.00 per test which will show up as an adjustment to your bi-monthly bill. In the event the assembly fails the initial test you are responsible to have the device repaired or replaced. An Orange Vale Water Company Certified Tester will re-test the device at no additional charge.
Who can test my backflow prevention assembly?
Testing shall be performed by a certified tester employed by Orange Vale Water Company.
Do backflow prevention assemblies need to be tested?
Yes, backflow prevention assemblies are equipped with internal seals, springs and moving parts that can wear or break. Assemblies must be tested annually to ensure proper operation.
Who can install a backflow prevention assembly?
The installation, maintenance, and repair of the backflow prevention assembly are the responsibility of the customer. The assembly may be installed by a property owner, plumbing contractor, or general contractor subject to Title 17 of the public health code and Orange Vale Water Company Construction Standards and Specifications. Contact the County Of Sacramento for any permit requirements.
How do I know if I need a backflow prevention assembly?
Through surveys and inspections Orange Vale Water Company will determine which properties are required to install backflow prevention assemblies. If an installation is required you will receive a letter outlining the steps you need to take to be in compliance.
How can backflow be prevented?
Backflow can be prevented by the installation of an Air Gap or an approved backflow prevention assembly installed on the service line.
What is backflow?
Backflow is the undesirable reversal of flow of potentially contaminated water into the potable water supply. The two types of backflow are backpressure and backsiphonage.

Why Does Orange Vale Water need a Cross-Connection Control Program?
Because backflows can contaminate the drinking water in the public water system, California Code of Regulation, Title 17, requires each Water Supplier to protect the public water supply from contamination by implementing a State approved cross-connection control program. To ensure the drinking water quality in our system is safe, Orange Vale Water Company has a vigorous Cross-Connection Control Program.
What is a Cross-Connection?
A cross connection is a permanent or temporary connection between a potable drinking water system and any source or system containing unapproved water or substance that is not or cannot be approved as safe, wholesome, and potable.
